A little about me
I was trained as a psychotherapist, in both social work and psychology when I was in school. In 1977 I discovered the newly emerging field of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) as well as a number of other treatment models. Later I became one of the early Certified Trainers by the Society of NLP. Early on I carved out specialties in the areas of education, training, and writing, in addition to psychotherapy applications, using the latest technology from this rapidly advancing field. I’ve worked as a researcher, trainer, coach and consultant to professionals, hospitals, schools, clinics, businesses, government agencies and professional athletes.
I’ve written five books and co-authored another, as well as many papers & articles on NLP. I’m generally considered to be an expert in the application of NLP to education and training, psychotherapy and communication skills. I’ve been training professionals in a variety of fields for over 35 years. There are Books and Articles tabs above for you to explore more about those.
I hold a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The Professional School of Psychological Studies, as well as a Masters in Social Work from Tulane University, where I also did my undergraduate work in psychology.
I work all over the world. Most extensively, in addition to the US and Canada, I’ve worked in the UK, Singapore and Malaysia. My wife and I lived in Singapore for a while and I’ve conducted a wide variety of training, design and consulting services for well over twenty years there. These include in-house NLP training programs for major international corporations like Singapore Airlines, Western Digital, Applied Materials, SAP, Singapore Technologies, Yokogawa Electric, The Pan Pacific Hotel, The Shangri-La Hotels, and several banks in addition to government agencies like the National Computer Board, Housing Development Board, Trade Development Board, Service Quality Centre, Land Transport Authority and the Ministry of Health. I’ve also worked with many local schools in Singapore, Polytechnics and Universities, hospitals, health care and social services agencies.
Here in the US I’ve worked with many small businesses and organizations, as well as large ones including Jackson National Life Insurance, DuPont Pharmaceuticals, Habitat for Humanity, Shell, ConocoPhillips, Case New Holland, Grainger and Intel. I also worked with partners for Maersk Sealand in eight countries. I’ve served on several local boards of directors, in New Orleans, including the American Society of Training & Development (ASTD), now called the Association of Talent Development (ATD). I also served as the 1995-1996 Director of the Neuro-Linguistics Forum of that organization, internationally.
I work with partner NLP Institutes, and other training and consulting firms, as a training consultant including Integrative Learning in Singapore, Mind Masters in Bucharest, NLP University in Santa Cruz, California and others in China, Portugal, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, Italy, Canada and more.
I live just outside New Orleans with my wife Cindi Lanza Jacobson.
